Reading Passage
The rapid growth of the 'Blue Economy'—the sustainable use of ocean resources for economic growth—has brought the issue of seagrass conservation into the spotlight. Often dismissed as mere 'seaweed,' seagrass meadows are actually among the most efficient carbon sinks on the planet, sequestering carbon at a rate far greater than tropical rainforests. However, these vital ecosystems are being lost at an alarming rate due to coastal development, nutrient runoff, and rising sea temperatures. While large-scale reforestation on land receives significant international funding, the 're-wilding' of the ocean floor remains largely invisible to the public. Proponents of blue carbon initiatives argue that restoring seagrass is the most cost-effective way to mitigate the climate crisis while simultaneously protecting coastal communities from storm surges. Yet, without a global, standardized framework for valuing these underwater services, they will continue to be sacrificed for short-term maritime expansion. A sustainable future requires us to recognize that the health of the atmosphere is inextricably linked to the quiet stability of the ocean’s meadows.
Which of the following most accurately summarizes the author’s primary concern regarding seagrass?
