Ocean currents play a fundamental role in regulating the Earth's climate by transporting heat from the tropics to the poles. These large-scale of water are driven primarily by wind patterns and differences in water density. The Thermohaline , often called the 'Great Ocean Conveyor Belt,' is a critical part of this global system. As surface water cools and its increases, it becomes denser and sinks to the deep ocean. However, the melting of polar ice caps could potentially this delicate balance by adding fresh water. Such changes in current patterns would have consequences for regional weather systems and marine worldwide.
