As night fell, a small group of Greek soldiers hidden inside the horse emerged and opened the gates for their waiting army.

According to the legend, after a ten-year siege of Troy, the Greeks constructed a massive hollow wooden horse and left it at the city gates.

This surprise assault led to the ultimate downfall of the city, illustrating the danger of accepting gifts from an enemy.

The Trojan Horse remains one of the most enduring and cunning stratagems in ancient Greek mythology.

Thinking the gift signaled a Greek retreat, the Trojans celebratory pulled the structure into their fortified walls.
