However, the rise of maritime exploration in the 15th century eventually diminished the importance of these overland caravans.

While the name suggests a single path, it actually consisted of numerous land and sea corridors used by merchants to transport luxury goods.

The Silk Road was an ancient network of interconnected trade routes that linked China with the Mediterranean world for centuries.

In addition to silk and spices, these routes facilitated the exchange of scientific knowledge, religious beliefs, and artistic styles between civilizations.
